 GMWDA set about an ambitious programme with Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited in April 2009. The investment of over £631 million, to build state of the art waste management facilities for Greater Manchester’s recycling and waste requirements.Our website provides lots of information on what we are doing and how with your help we will recycle and compost at least 50%, and divert from landfill at least 75%, of waste generated by 2015. We are working closely with our partners and most importantly you, our residents. Together we have reduced the amount of waste collected from over 1,203 kt in 2008/09 to 1038 kt in 2012/13.In 2010 the Authority reconsidered its aims and objectives and agreed “Our aim is Zero Waste”. We need your help to achieve it.
