The origins of Rowlands Music Shop can be traced back to 1966, when Graham and Christine Rowlands opened their first shop at 16 St Helens Road, Swansea. Calling the business Exchange & Mart, they dealt with all sorts of new and pre-owned consumer goods, but, following their own passion for music, specialised in records and musical instruments. During the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s Graham and Christine built up a reputation in Swansea for their selection of interesting (and sometimes rare) guitars, LPs and CDs.

It was in 1990 that a chance encounter set the business on a new course, and changed things forever! A travelling sales rep from the Hohner company was in Swansea visiting music shops and was just about to start the long journey home. On the way to his car, he walked past our shop and something in the window caught his eye…..a sign with the words “Guitars Bought For Cash”. Graham didn’t just buy guitars from the Hohner rep. He bought guitars, amplifiers, guitar strings, harmonicas and a karaoke machine! The sales rep later confided that he had very nearly walked straight past the shop, into his car and home to his wife and dog!

Hundreds of sales reps later, we now have over 50 quality brands to offer including Fender, Ibanez, PRS, Stonebridge (Furch), Takamine, Simon and Patrick, Roland, Boss, Bauhaus Walstein, Pearl, Sabian and Zildjian, to name just a few! We now supply guitars, amplifiers, basses, drums, PA, saxophones, digital pianos, ukeleles, harmonicas and all the accessories you can think of!
Incidentally, Rowlands Music is still a family run business to this day with the additions of Nick Rowlands and Dan Rowlands, sons of Graham and Christine.

Our music store is at 31 St Helens Road, Swansea with customers visiting us from all over South Wales. We promise quality well-known brands at competitive prices and an excellent after sales service to match! Regular visitors to the store will be accustomed to the customer friendly approach employed by Jamie, Richard, Dan and Nick. We wish for our customers to have a pleasurable experience every time!
