The Baker Street Kitchen

Trusted for 10 years

The Baker Street Kitchen is a bit like a cake recipe. It's being mixed together by Marie and Mark, both with a passion for food, cooking, baking, cafes, as well as resurrecting old furniture and making do and mend. Marie is from Middlesbrough and has worked in art gallery education departments for the last 21 years.

Mark is a builder from Sheffield who rebuilt an old barn in the Peak District as a holiday let, the Peak District Holiday Barn. He previously ran a cafe in Sheffield, Vittles, for 7 years, and is keen to return to the kitchen again. By coincidence, his mum lived in Middlesbrough in the 1980s and created a sandwich shop on Beford Street, next to Baker Street, which was also called Vittles. Together, Marie and Mark want to create a relaxed, welcoming, tasty food haven in Middlesbrough.  They were inspired by the activity taking place on Baker Street, with independent businesses springing up, giving new life and breath to the town centre.  They wanted a corner site (tick), with lots of natural light and windows (tick), with an outdoor terrace (tick).

The Baker Street Kitchen is still being created, and will open later this Autumn. In cake terms, it's in the oven baking, the delicious smells are beginning to permeate, and it won't be long until it's cooling on the cake rack and ready for decorating and serving.
