The Bassett Clinic

Trusted for 10 years

If you are in pain and need help, call me now and arrange a consultation in St Albans or Kings Langley to find out how Chiropractic can help you.

Chiropractors are specialists in problems with the framework of bones and muscles that support the body (the musculoskeletal system)not just your back.

If you are hurting, and are finding life difficult, muscles or joints stiff in the morning, or painful, then consulting me for chiropractic care can help speed your recovery before it stops you completely. Prevention is better than cure, catching mechanical problems early lets you get on with your life pain free. Most of our new patients have been told about us by someone they know who has been to the clinic and appreciates the care they have received from their chiropractor and the improvement they have felt. People who have come for chiropractic care with pain, stiffness, pins and needles or numbness in their joints.

I could help you too. Please call or email me, I have information leaflets I can send you, I can arrange a chat or book a consultation with a chiropractor for you when you can talk about your symptoms, have a physical examination and diagnosis and if appropriate some treatment.

Age isn't a problem, I see people from new babies upwards. More important is the question, 'Is there anything going on that means you shouldn't be treated'. Qualifying as a chiropractor involves extensive study, both initially and ongoing. I am trained as a primary care practitioner, you do not need to be referred by your doctor. If treatment is not appropriate for you, I will tell you, either referring you to your doctor or suggesting a more appropriate practitioner.

You will get an individually tailored treatment program. Both The St Albans Chiropractic Clinic and The Watford/Kings Langley Chiropractic Clinic offer friendly, professional care. We are here to help you, your family or your friends . . . call me, then pass it on.

Here is a thought . . .

Painkillers - Friend or Foe?

Some 85% of people take painkillers at some point in their lives. It may be for headaches, back pain, arthritic pain or even period pain.

Painkillers (analgesics) are substances that give temporary relief from pain without causing a loss of consciousness. THey do not address the cause of the problem, but mask the symptoms allowing you to continue your normal actitivities without feeling the pain.

The most commonly used painkillers are the non-narcotic drugs aspirin and paracetmol and the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug ibuprofen. These can be bought over the counter.

There are also narcotic painkillers for severe pain, and short-term use such as codeine and morphine. These are prescription drugs.

Side effects of taking aspirin and stronger non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be stomach irritation and sometimes bleeding. These can be minimised by taking with meals or a glass of milk.

Opiates, such as codeine often cause nausea, dizziness and constipation. More worrying is that they can also cause drowsiness. Extreme care should to be taken if other medications are needed as combinations can cause problems.

If you have to take a painkiller make sure you follow all the instructions, and if the pain recurs or lasts over a longer period, seek treatment for the cause of the problem, masking the pain does not help.

And don't forget - your Chiropractor is here to help . . .
