The Grey Rhino is a restaurant with a contemporary twist on Nepali cuisine. The dishes we offer take you on a journey through modern Nepal, the land of Gurkhas as well as the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, Rhinoceros unicornis, or the Grey Rhino.
Once found across the entire Indian sub-continent, the rhino population was severely depleted as they were hunted for sport and killed for its magnificent horn which is valued for ornamental and medicinal use which pushed the species almost to extinction.Conservation efforts, mostly by the WWF has seen the rhino population growing from 600-700 to almost 3,000 recently.
There are two main conservation areas in Nepal- the Chitwan National Park and the Bardiya National Park. Though Nepal is proud to report zero-poaching in the last year, Man still remains the greatest threat to a rhino and we are committed to doing our part in helping with the conservation of this amazing animal. We pledge to contribute a percentage of our profit to various rhino charities in Nepal , making sure that the conservation efforts continue to grow.
