The Wycliffe Hotel.

Trusted for 10 years

The Wycliffe Hotel and Restaurant before being founded by Umberto Tavini in the late 1980’s was a presbytery belonging to the Wycliffe Methodist Church (Stockport). It wasn’t until the late 1980’s that Umberto Tavini took ownership of the building and converted 74 Edgeley road (one of the two houses that currently makes up the Wycliffe) into a hotel and restaurant. The Wycliffe, back in the day, had direct access from Edgeley road and boasted twelve small rooms. In the 1990s, the Tavini family bought the conjoining house, 5 Waverly Road, and extended the hotel and restaurant. Now with 20 rooms, a restaurant holding up to ninety guests and a downstairs function room, named the Cortona suite, being able to accommodate a further forty-five guests, the Wycliffe Hotel and Restaurant built its reputation of one of Stockport’s most premier and sort after venues. In 2002 the Tavini family decided that whilst 20 rooms was a good asset for a small hotel, it would be in the best interest of the guests if there were 14 larger rooms. To-date the Wycliffe currently boasts 14 rooms, of which three are triples, ten are doubles and one is a single. We hope this give you a little insight to the history of the Wycliffe, however, if you would like to know more please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
