Trusted for 10 years
Wick Transport was originally set up in the village of Wick in 1965. The company was created by Tony and Carolyn Jenkins, greatly helped by Carolyn's father Howell Thomas. Starting with two trucks, the company quickly grew to twelve vehicles concentrating on general haulage from Bridgend to London .In the early 70's the company became Wick Transport Services Limited, adding specialist vehicle rentals and servicing to the haulage business. Towards the end of the seventies haulage was becoming very competitive and, as it was no time to be small, we had to increase the fleet size to forty vehicles to survive.Wick Transport did not have the premises, but an opportunity arose to purchase the petrol filling station in Wick. Now we started to sell vans as there was a huge marketplace for a specialist van dealer in Wales. And boy did it take off! After taking 18 months to get established and for the name to get known, we were selling forty vans per month. We soon outgrew the petrol station and rented premises at Llandow Airfield for 10 years before moving to our current premises. At the time, we had a fair bit of help from Dick Morgan, commonly known as "Dick from Wick". If you are from the area, you may remember him? The garage in Wick was then empty except for petrol, gas and coal sales. In 1981-82 we tentatively started hiring vans, then minibuses and eventually anything you care to think of. Today, we are fully set up in Bridgend with our own custom-built premises. We still sell vans and minibuses and carry about 100 vehicles in stock. We also hire vehicles, currently with a fleet of about 60 including cars, vans, lutons and tippers. The staff has grown from four people in the early days to eleven people now. Call in and meet us.
