s Captain of Woodhall Hills Golf Club it gives me great pleasure to welcome all our members, guests and visitors and I sincerely hope that 2014 will be an enjoyable and successful year for everyone.Woodhall Hills Golf Club is in between Leeds and Bradford close to the village of Calverley and has far reaching views over Leeds to the East and Baildon and Ilkley Moors to the West. Our long established club has benefited from a number of improvements over the past few years and is now regarded as a challenging yet fair test of golf and has a growing reputation within the area. With just under 6400 yards off the white tees and just under 5900 yards from the men’s tees, Woodhall is never easy, especially if the wind is blowing. Our 3 par 5’s are all over 500 yards, the par 3’s are well guarded by bunkers and even the short par 4’s are protected by strategically placed ditches. If you are fortunate enough to reach the 18th and still have the chance to post a good score there are still 431 yards to go, mainly uphill and into a prevailing wind.Our staff all offer a warm and friendly welcome to visitors.
 We have an extremely good teaching professional in Neil Wendel-Jones who now has a covered teaching bay so he can continue lessons should the weather intervene. Neil is happy to provide lessons for new golfers, experienced low handicappers and all levels in between for both members and non members. He also has well stocked shop with up to date ranges of clubs, clothing and shoes.Our steward Mick Mifsud continues to develop the catering side of the club and there are now a number of social events throughout the year giving new members a chance to integrate and get to know people. The club is also available for visiting golfing parties plus weddings and birthdays etc subject to availability. We are getting more and more popular for such events thanks to Mick and his staff.From a golfing point of view, Woodhall Hills has always been a golfer’s golf club and we have men’s competitions three times a week so all membership categories can play competitive golf. As well as the men’s sections, we also have a very popular ladies section which has competitions every Tuesday plus an expanding junior section.As our reputation grows, we have attracted lower handicap golfers and now have a very strong scratch team of whom great things are hoped for in 2014. I am very much looking forward to captaining the team and working closely with my Vice Captain Eddie Hall.Golf is not just restricted to the scratch team however. We have a resurgent 8-15 team  and rabbit’s team matches are always well supported. If you want to play competitive golf against other clubs therefore, all handicap ranges are covered. Having played golf at Woodhall Hills since 1987, I am absolutely delighted to be club Captain for 2014. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members, visitors and guests a successful golfing year and hope we have a fine and warm summer to make our golf even more enjoyable. Have fun on the golf course but be considerate towards others and remember, keep your sense of humour. There's enough stress in the rest of your life not to let bad shots ruin a game you're supposed to enjoy.
