Farningham Butchers

Farningham is situated on the old London to Folkestone Road astride the River Darent about 9 miles north of Sevenoaks, 5 miles south of Dartford and approximately 17 miles (30 minutes) from London.

The population in Farningham is approximately 1,250. The village is scheduled as a Conservation Area and has many notable buildings and historical sites. St. Peter and St. Paul's Church sits proudly in the heart of the village and dates back to 1240.

In the Domesday Book it states that Farningham had four manors. One of these manors belonged to a Norman Knight called Wadard. Wadard fought at the Battle of Hastings, you will see him, on his horse, shield held high on the sign as you enter the village.

In the 17th Century the village thrived with businesses such as a weavers, saddle makers, blacksmiths, publicans and also a butcher. Farningham Butchers has been a thriving business for over 200 years and is one of only a couple of shops that still cater to the everyday needs of the village.

Owned and run by A.E. Sage from 1930 the butchers was then taken over by E.S. and I Warren in 1945 who catered for the village until 1958, when it was then owned by John Bull who ran the business for 30 years until 1988.

More recently the shop was owned by Eddie Bainbridge who worked as an apprentice butcher and his wife Christine, both lived in the village selling only top quality produce.

In 2009 after 21 years, Eddie & Chris passed the business on to the Mayatt family, who are maintaining these important family run, traditional values and excellent, high quality produce to the local community and customers further afield.
