As a bit of a reluctant exerciser Tangerine13 was a godsend to me! I spent years hiding at the back of gym classes, hoping nobody would notice I was skiving but then wondering why I wasn’t getting any slimmer or fitter!   T13 was different and I immediately felt comfortable. Nobody judged what weight you were using or whether you could do a full press up and you get just the right amount of encouragement. I’ve lost over 3 stone in the last year and it’s taken lots of hard work on my part, but I can’t take all the credit! Going to group training twice a week has greatly improved my fitness and kept me motivated. You also get individual attention that you just don’t see in other gyms, I suffer from sciatica and got more help from Carolyne understanding and treating it than I did from my doctor. I even managed to run the 10k after my most recent episode and get a PB into the bargain. I truly believe that wouldn’t have been achieved without the help and encouragement I got from everyone (but especially Carolyne) at Tangerine 13! It’s like a wee family! Clare Reilly, 34

After having 2 children I was fat unhealthy and unfit.  In 2005 Carolyne convinced me I could change my ways. It was a long road starting with walking a mile which I struggled with at first and building up to completing a 10k run/walk within the year.  I have since completed 6 10k’s and run 2 or 3 times a week. I started group training in 2010 to build up my upper body strength which was nonexistent.  I can now do 10 full proper press ups and I’m working towards chin ups. I love training every week, it keeps my motivation high and my fitness levels up. I’ve lost around 2 1/2 stone from when i first started most of which I lost in the first few years and have more or less kept off since. The biggest difference has been to my energy levels and general attitude to exercise and life. I have twice took part in a fundraising event where I cycled to Loch Lomond and back, 56 miles in a day, something I would never of had the confidence or ability to do before. Julia Gunn, 39

I joined Tangerine 13 early 2013, prior to that I did no exercise I wanted to be fitter and lose weight. I do 3 lunch sessions a week which are fun and diverse. What I really like is that Carolyne teaches you about the technical aspect of the exercise and the impacts on your body. The results speak for themselves, I now have a toned body shape that I never had before and can’t believe the difference! I honestly feel healthier, happier and have lost nearly a stone. After being very fit as a dancer throughout my teenage years, I suffered a bad injury and was then diagnosed as Type 1 diabetic.  I was 17, I systematically shied away from exercise, putting on 3 stone, and my fitness level plummeted to zero. I tried a couple of diets which worked temporarily but was still unhappy at losing my former levels of fitness. I knew I wanted to do something about it but was totally lost as to where to start. I needed structure and someone to guide me how to start from scratch. I had never done personal training before and was a little unsure when I started, but Carolyne put me at ease and chatted me through what I needed and wanted. I was very sceptical about group training with others and so began with 1:1. I was also unsure about weight training as a female but with Carolyne convinced me. Kettlebells are now my favourite session and I quickly progressed on to the group sessions which I love. It’s like a little family, we all encourage each other and are pleased to see each progress too. I now love weight training! I am far stronger than I could have ever envisaged and so much fitter. I‘ve lost a total of 7 inches off my waist, I feel better than I have done in years, I’ve taken up running and signed up for the Moonwalk too. I’ve always played and enjoyed football with my mates playing 5 asides once a week but over the years I gained weight, way over 100kg and was struggling to last a game.  I was out of breath, weak and unfit.  I would never have considered personal training but my girlfriend Keri was working with Carolyne and she was getting great results.  Keri was looking really lean and was running 10ks in around an hour, she suggested I go and see Carolyne and I agreed to give it a try, that was two years ago. Since then my fitness levels have vastly improved, I’m stronger, I’ve lost 15 kg in weight and running a 10k every week under the hour.  I’m also running rings around my mates on the pitch, I’m no longer out of breath and have as much energy at the end of the game than at the start.  I feel good about myself but I also feel more confident about trying new things. I have always been slim and tried to keep quite active, but I love my food as well! My weight crept up when I started my first job and slowly but surely I noticed my clothes getting tighter, which affected my confidence and self esteem. My friend Roisin was training with Carolyne and she raved about the training so I was excited to try it out…I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m a lot stronger and fitter now, which is a really addictive feeling!  My body is a lot more toned and I am a lot happier with my shape. I’ve made some great friends through the Studio, the people are great as the training environment. I love the challenge that it gives me. Personal Training has made fitness part of my life routine. I can’t sing any more praise for Carolyne. I started sessions in Carolynes Studio in July 2010 and was impressed by her refreshing attitude to exercise. Carolyne is full of encouragement and her expert knowledge of anatomy, fitness and exercise allows her to tailor each exercise for beginners through to advanced people. Carolyne helped transform my body for my wedding, I actually didn’t lose weight on the scales but lost about 2 dress sizes and I felt amazing on the day!  I am now pregnant with my first baby and Carolyne is continuing to train me as she is Pre and Post Natal qualified, I have complete trust in her. I will also be returning to my sessions as soon as I am able to, after the birth, to get back in shape.  I haven’t put much weight on, just a baby bump, and that’s all down the workouts we do. Each session is an education in the body, muscle groups I’m working and how to improve. Carolyne is encouraging at every step of the way and is a breath of fresh air to work with. Many Personal Trainers shout at you from the side of a gym machine – something I find very demotivational – and Carolyne couldn’t be further from that stereotype! I was stressed and struggled to find time for myself.  I felt overweight and struggled to make an effort to do anything about it. I don’t particularly like exercise and get quite bored with it quickly.  Before starting at Tangerine13 I didn’t think I would be able to fit any kind of exercise into my lifestyle at all but it’s been easy…. In just two months I’ve lost a stone and 2 inches from my waist and my hips!  I’ve also built strength and stamina and can climb the stairs without being out of breath. The lunchtime sessions are great as it’s an opportunity to escape from my desk, clear my head and I’m also eating a lot healthier.  I have more energy, I’m stress-free and enjoying the fact that I still get to enjoy busy evenings with the kids.  I need a new wardrobe!! My life was pretty inactive before I started with Carolyne. I kidded myself on that I was active and thought I was reasonably strong.  I was feeling guilty and unhappy about the situation I was in so avoiding it made it easier to forget the guilt! I wanted to be able to commit to something and sustain it. My aim is to increase my general fitness levels, get stronger and lose inches. I have very little self-motivation i.e. I’m really lazy so the group sessions are perfect. They provide motivation from your peers in the group but also you can’t hide at the back or in the gym doing the bare minimum- I think if you’re going to work out you might as well make the most of it! I was sceptical about the results that I could achieve working for half an hour at lunchtime- I was so wrong because you work hard!! I also lost 2 inches from my waist in the first month. I’ve managed to sustain the sessions and even increased to include an evening session. I had joined gyms but after the initial motivation faded I stopped going, continuing paying for months before finally cancelling. I wanted to be healthier, but I just couldn’t find anything that I could stick with, then I found Tangerine 13. I was terrified about starting, I was so unfit I worried people would laugh at me or the trainers would shout at me. I really shouldn’t have worried. We did a fitness test our first night, but instead of shouting and laughing everyone was really encouraging. I felt really bad that I had let myself become so unfit, but Carolyne was very supportive from the start. I couldn’t do a single press up on that first night but I managed to do 20 full press ups just four weeks later. I felt so much stronger and more confident. I was doing 3 sessions a week and looked forward to them. It was the first time I’d ever started any fitness regime and stuck to it. Every session was different so we never knew what to expect and that made it more fun. I even started doing 1:1 pt sessions too, which I love. Exercise is part of life now and I can’t imagine not going along to group training. We all encourage each other and it feels great when you achieve something you never thought possible. I’ve just done a half marathon at the Kiltwalk and the 26 mile Moonwalk with a group from Tangerine 13.
